Lady Dane Farmhouse
Kent, ME13 8BJ
It was with great excitement and some anxiety that three members of our staff left the Fynvola Farmhouse heading for Headcorn Airfield and their very first parachute jumps. They were raising funds to help provide additional equipment in their newly constructed sensory room completed in April, 2015 and built next to the Activities room.
Terry Knight and Yasmin Proctor are both Support Workers and Hannah Thomson is the Activities Instructor and they work for the Fynvola Foundation based in Faversham. The Fynvola Foundation is a unique nursing home environment exclusively for people with learning disabilities who need nursing and palliative end of life care.
The staff team know the benefits to their residents and like to be able to provide a range of activities for each of their residents improving their quality of life and have fun in a happy and lively environment this also includes areas where residents can relax and interact with equipment in a sensory room that is designed to both stimulate or relax residents according to their needs.
Arriving at the field the three staff who were feeling nervous but excited met their Instructors and were given tuition in preparation for their tandem jumps. Eventually they boarded their aircraft and took off late in the afternoon. They flew 2.5 miles up before jumping. One described the experience as being one of the most terrifying things they have ever done and yet one of the most exhilarating and they were thrilled that they had been able to steer their chute on their descent.
To date they have already raised £1,500 and are now looking for their next challenge so far its either a half marathon or wing walking to continue to raise funds and awareness of the unique and important work of the Fynvola Foundation.
